Jazzy Cat Stratocaster Set Release
*Release*
John Mayers Black Strat Tone Set "Jazzy Cat"
Jazzy Cat Stratocaster Pickup Set - "John Mayers Black Strat Tone".
The long awaited release of the Jazzy Cat set is the closest that one
can get to Mayers Black Strat Tone with out being John himself. We
have spent countless hours researching, to obtain all the information
necessary to build a set of pickups that gets this Tone. We went
through several dozen test sets in the development, fine tuning each to
get as close as possible. We also had to order special magnets to
stock for this set. The neck has a very unique stagger while the
middle & bridge have the same stagger it is as well is different
from traditional vintage stagger. This set is staggered in the same
way as Mayers Strat. These pickups are low in output, very clean,
while still full in the low end, provides that extreme crystal clean
quack which is a signature of Johns tone.
The set has Hand Beveled Magnets, it's wax potted, & RWRP. (We can
also wind a NON-RWRP for a little more top end in the # 2 & 4
Position - No additional Cost)
These
pickups are only sold as sets and here's why. In order to get the tone
of John Mayer there are several things to consider. Each pickup with
its unique stagger plays a part in how the quack is developed in the
out-of-phase position. If you mix and match pickups you will not get
the same results. John also plays Expensive Boutique 30-50 watt amps,
Two Rocks & Dumbles, his pedals, and his mastered art of playing
the guitar. We tested this set of pickups through a Two Rock amp we
have here at the shop and with just a touch of reverb from the amp it
nails the tone of Johns Black Strat. All of these items contribute to
the overall tone of Johns Black Strat.
These
pickups also put your guitar in the tonal range so you can get some
killer Hendrix and SRV tones. This set also is great for playing some
smokehouse blues, so don't think you will be limited in your tone for
playing this set.

New Release @ Texas Guitar Show
Running a little behind. At the Arlington, TX Guitar Show Oct we released our 1959 Stratocaster Pickup Set. Thanks to all that showed up and visited our booth, played the guitars, purchased, & took brochures and picks. 1959 Stratocaster Pickups: The set is
modeled after the original specs of 1959 to recreate the Golden years the
Heavy Formvar warm and woody pickup tones. Vintage staggered Alnico 5 magnets
with 42ga Heavy Formvar magnet wire bring out the traditional
stratocaster tone. The tone is full and round, provides a nice medium compression that is smooth and creamy. Medium-Stratty. Lets not forget they are scatter wound with the same techniques that fender used in the 1950's. Wax potted to avoid unwanted microphonics. Non-RWRP, RWRP is available at no additional cost.

Scooped Mid Range Big Dipper Pickups
Clarifying up Lots of Myths
I have been reading lots of information from players and winders who just don't quite understand scooped Mids pickups.
A pickup that has a scooped mid range has 1 of 2 types in design.
1. Yes, it is true that if you were to have a pickup wound to 3k or 4k
it would have a scooped mid range. The mid range has not had enough winds to
develop. I have wound a set of pickups and
even have sound clips on my website "S-6 Low Output Stratocaster Set", they were
wound to about 4.5k.
The more you wind a pickup the more you mask the trebles and you tend to get a more of a mid range presence.
2. Designing a pickup that has a scooped mid range and still has a
decent output is where the "Big Dippers" and Klein Scooped S-5 pickups
are. There are things that have been done in the manufacturing and
winding process that create the scooped sound. It is not a myth, it is not fake, and it is real.
I won't be discussing further the technique of how to scoop a
pickups mid range but, I can tell you, "There is nothing fake about a
Scooped Set of pickups." If you can't quite understand it, that does
not discredit you or you intelligence.
Please understand I am trying to clarify some misinformation that is out on the internet about Scooped Mid Range Pickups.
You can achieve some scooping by turning down the amps mid range,
however you are still getting the mid range signal from the pickup. A
Scooped pickup will not. I can wind a pickup to 5k, 7k, 9k, or 13k and
still have a scooped tone. Traditional winding techniques can not
achieve that.

REFERENCE: Pickup Height Adjustment
REFERENCE: Pickup Height Adjustment
Our suggestion for general pickup height setup is below:
1. Raise the bridge pickup as high as you can with out getting any string pull. Even on both bass and treble sides.
2. Strike a chord on the bridge, then switch to the middle pickup.
Raise the middle pickup until you get no volume dip from the bridge to
middle pickup. They should balance with out any noticeable difference.
3. Repeat for the neck position.
This will give you a perfectly balanced volume setup.
Now you may tweak the bass and treble sides to suit your playing style and make it yours!
